We did it! Doing hair and makeup for the Miss Virginia USA 2014 pageant was an experience for my entire team that they will not soon forget! The backstage drama and excitement, the nervous contestants and their mothers. It felt like Fashion Week in New York but with someone being crowned Queen at the end of the extravaganza.
Kim Nicewonder, the pageant director, did an incredible job of organizing and executing a near impossible feat. Getting 40 girls choreographed to come onstage and do intricate maneuvers in just two days plus every other detail of such a large endeavor. The stage at the Paramount was very nicely decorated for the different segments and the lighting was flawless. The audience was enthusiastic with many carrying pictures of the favored girls on flat sticks that they held up and cheered when the girls were featured. Several of the girls we did makeup and hair for made the top 12 cut and one was fourth runner up in the main division. We were able to complete all of our contestants in the allotted time, even though we added additional contestants. We had been told by several of the girls that in their past pageant experiences they would pay for hair and makeup only to be left undone because the onsite hair/makeup team was unable to get to all the girls in the short time they were allowed.
Melissa, our salon coordinator, worked like a coach and moved contestants through the process efficiently and quickly. The rest of the team executed their parts flawlessly. A shout out of special thanks goes to Julia, Amber, Jessy, Jordan, and William. Well done guys! Here are some pictures from that adventure.
